Volunteering Opportunity: Join our Board of Directors

Ferry Farm Community Solar CIC is a community solar farm that reinvests excess revenue into community projects. The organisation is supported by Community for Renewables CIC (CfR), which provides professional management and operational services to the project.

CfR supports the company with areas such as administration, governance, compliance, financial management, and coordination of solar farm operations. This allows Directors to focus on strategic oversight, community impact, partnership building, and supporting local projects.

As a Director, you will:

· Shape strategy – help guide the long-term direction of Ferry Farm Community Solar CIC and ensure we deliver on our community purpose.

· Be part of the local community – help us build partnerships with local organisations, schools, and community groups, including through our work with Selsey Community Forum.

· Support community work – help identify and develop projects that deliver environmental and social benefits locally.

· Act as an ambassador – represent Ferry Farm Community Solar CIC at occasional meetings and events, both locally and online.

Time commitment

Full board meetings are held quarterly, typically online, with occasional in-person meetings and informal working sessions as required. Additional activities may include strategy workshops, community meetings, school engagement, and local events. Day-to-day project management and administration support are handled operationally, allowing Directors to focus on strategy, oversight, partnerships, and impact.

What support is provided?

Expenses covered – reasonable out-of-pocket expenses (e.g. travel and refreshments) can be reclaimed.

Flexible involvement – we recognise Directors are volunteers and aim to accommodate different levels of availability and experience. Ongoing support – Directors will receive guidance and support to help them understand their role and responsibilities.

Please Note: Directors must be at least 18 years old and need no formal qualifications, only an interest in the environment and local community. A minimum 12-month commitment is expected from all directors.

· Are able to act responsibly and maintain the reputation of Ferry Farm Community Solar CIC.

· Can commit the time needed for quarterly meetings and preparation.

· Are comfortable using email and online meetings to communicate.

You don’t need to be an energy expert – but you do need to be willing to learn, ask questions, and exercise your duty of care, due diligence, and confidentiality as a Company Director under the Companies Act 2006.
