Earlier this year, Ferry Farm Community Solar awarded a £3,000 grant to The Academy Selsey, sponsoring 50% of the initial setup and ongoing costs for the school’s innovative green power car project. Students are building the car as part of the Greenpower challenge, a national competition where children design, build and race a single-seat electric race car.
Tom Harrison, the science teacher spearheading the project, expressed his excitement and gratitude for Ferry Farm's support. “Firstly, a huge thank you for your help in realising our project!
He continued, “We had our first race at Castle Combe earlier this month. We were very proud to come 31st out of 52 kit cars and 45th out of all 72 teams (including custom cars), and we hope to improve on our place this Saturday at Ford Dunton test track…Team TAS Pink Panther really appreciates all your help so far and we hope to drive to victory (and hopefully a spot in the finals at Goodwood on October 14th!)”
The project has given students a unique opportunity to learn various engineering, electrical and computing skills and translate this knowledge into practical, hands-on STEM experiences. They have been actively involved in enhancing the car's design and aerodynamics and have also participated in practice driving sessions.
