Ferry Farm Community Solar receives Highly Commended Award at the REA British Renewable Energy Award

Updated: Feb 5, 2021

The winners of the Association for Renewable Energy and Clean Technology’s (REA) British Renewable Energy Awards have been announced and Ferry Farm has been awarded highly commended within the community category. Now in its 15th year, the award winners were revealed in a prestigious virtual event on 26 January. The awards demonstrated the ‘amazing work’ undertaken on the road to net-zero and celebrated the achievements of companies and individuals who have done something ‘fantastic’ in the field of renewables or clean technology over the past year.

Since its creation in 2016 Ferry Farm Community Solar has been generating electricity and income from the sun, with surplus income being used to support local community organisations and projects. This includes supporting an energy and fuel poverty advice service, providing a community grant scheme to help fund local energy efficiency measures for local community buildings and more recently an allocation of £40,000 to a Coronavirus Crisis Fund which has helped several charities, community groups, schools, local businesses and those most in need due to the pandemic.

Ferry Farm Community Solar is expected to generate at least £2million over the solar farm’s 30-year operating life to support local community initiatives.

The grant fund is managed by Selsey Community Forum. Please visit their website to find about out how to apply for grant funding and previous awards made.
